Nuneaton Taekwon-Do finish 9th at the British Championships

Two Martial Arts students with medals

On the 29th of June, eleven of our Nuneaton Taekwon-Do students competed at the British Championships in Hereford.

It was an early morning for our students. The day started with our youngest competitor, Felix who competed in the Pre-TKD events; Patterns, Dragon's Tail and Power Pad. Felix did extremely well, progressing through a Patterns round and achieving a Bronze medal in the under-5's Dragon Tail .

Up next was Daisy who was competing in her first tournament and took to the mat in the Children's Yellow Belt Patterns . Despite putting in a good performance Daisy didn't secure a medal this time but we are very proud of how she performed. Straight onto Sparring then for Daisy who took part in the -135 cm Points Sparring event beating her opponent to take another bronze medal for Nuneaton TKD.

Our other tournament newcomers, Tommy and Lucas, put up a fantastic performance in 9th to 7th kup Junior Patterns each coming away with a medal. This was an extremely large category and both boys went through several rounds; Lucas securing a Bronze medal and Tommy finding himself in the final to win a Silver medal .

Tommy then competed in the +155 cm Points Sparring where he secured himself the Bronze.

It was then time for Lewis to compete who in the Junior Boys Colour Belt Patterns. Unfortunately for Lewis he met with the eventual Gold medal winner early in the rounds and was unable to secure a medal this time. He redeemed himself in the Junior Boys -55 kg Points Sparring where he progressed through several rounds to take a well deserved Gold Medal.

1st kup George unfortunately missed out in the Junior Male & Female 4th to 1st kup Patterns despite performing a technical Choong Moo. However having worked hard in training, George was able to secure the Gold in the 14 - 17 Male 4th to 1st kup +55 kg Sparring .

Finally our Nuneaton TKD black belts took to the mat, where instructor Natalie Williams took a Silver in Adult Female Blackbelt Patterns , Silver in Adult Female Blackbelt Sparring and rounding off the day with an excellent break to achieve a Gold in Female Blackbelt Power .

The Junior Blackbelts then competed in Junior Female Blackbelt Patterns which was a very large category. England squad members Ella winning a Bronze medal and Libby losing out in the final to take Silver.

Following Patterns was Sparring with Ella competing in the Junior Female Blackbelt -55 kg Sparring winning a silver and Libby and Beth in the Junior Female Blackbelt +55 kg Sparring where Libby landed herself with a Bronze and Beth a silver.

Our final black belt, Mr Dimitrov took to the mat in Adult Male Blackbelt Patterns where he narrowly missed out to eventual Gold medal winner Ashley Stuart from Senshi TKD but took Bronze in the Adult Male Blackbelt +80 kg Sparring .

All of our competitors did us proud on an extremely hot day in Hereford with Nuneaton Taekwon-Do eventually finishing 9th out of 26 schools.

Thank you to Mr Frisby for umpiring on the day.
