Success for the team at the GTI Open in Hinckley

Nuneaton TKD at the 2026 GTI English - Nuneaton medal winners

Members of Nuneaton Taekwon‑Do achieved impressive results at the GTI English Open, held at Hinckley Leisure Centre this weekend. The tournament brought together students from many different Taekwon-Do styles in the UK, giving our students the chance to test their skills in a competitive environment and showcase the hard work they’ve put into their training.

For several members, this was their first experience competing at a Taekwon‑Do competition and we are proud of them for stepping up onto the mats.

Medal results

  • Adrian – 🥉🥉 Bronze in Patterns and Bronze in Sparring
  • Lacey – 🥈🥈 Silver in Patterns and Silver in Sparring
  • Mario – 🥉 Bronze in Sparring
  • Tymon – 🥉 Bronze in Sparring
  • Dexter – 🥉 Bronze in Sparring
  • Olive – 🥈 Silver in Sparring

Well done also to Hope and Leah, who both performed brilliantly on the day — sometimes the medals don’t come home, but the experience gained is just as valuable.

A special mention to Adrian, who competed as a Veteran but was merged into the Adult category. Despite the challenge, he took all three of his sparring matches to extra time and still came away with a Bronze medal in a strong field of eight competitors. A fantastic effort and a true example of perseverance.

Why Our Students Compete

Tournaments like the GTI English Open are a vital part of Taekwon‑Do training. They give students of all ages and experience levels the chance to:

  • Build confidence by performing under pressure in a controlled, supportive environment
  • Apply their skills against new and varied opponents, developing adaptability and self‑control
  • Learn sportsmanship and respect — qualities central to the art of Taekwon‑Do
  • Set and achieve personal goals, boosting motivation in regular training
  • Bond as a team, creating friendships and community spirit across our club

For us, competition is not only about medals — it’s about learning, growth, and becoming the best version of yourself on and off the mat.

Next Competition

Next up, our team will be heading to the UKTA English Open in Guildford on 28th February / 1st March. It’s another great opportunity for our students to develop their competition experience and continue representing Nuneaton Taekwon‑Do at a national level.
